Background:
Sutton in Craven Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School opened on the 1st February 1858 at the not inconsiderable sum of £1,070 money raised by the efforts of the Rev Fawcett. In addition to the classrooms, there is a library, a hall where assembly, PE lessons and school meals take place and for 2005 an additional mezzanine classroom has been built in the roof void. There is also a school office, staff room, quiet area, storeroom and scullery. It is situated in its grounds and is fortunate that Sutton Park is directly opposite and is able to be used for organised games and environmental studies. In close proximity the Village Hall is also used for social gatherings.
