Background:
The school is situated in Menston, a surburban village outside Leeds. It opened in 1964 as a secondary modern school and became comprehensive in 1973. It serves the parishes of Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Horsforth, Otley, Pudsey and Yeadon. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place; draws pupils from a wide geographical area. With an outstanding reputation for competitive sport, 12 students have represented Great Britian Catholic Schools in international events in recent years, more than any other school. The music department supports the religious life of the school and also runs two choirs and an orchestra, which perform several times a year. Other activities include juggling, debating, drama and fundraising. Ethos: 'The aim of our balanced curriculum is to develop, in a context of Christian understanding, the knowledge, skills, values, confidence and motivation each pupil needs. To support this, we provide a stimulating environment in which enthusiasm, commitment and enjoyment are paramount'.
