Background:

St John's Church of England Junior and Infant School was originally a national school housed in an old building in the weaving village of Golcar. The current school was built in 1981 and stands on a green site with wonderful views over the Pennine Hills. The school has excellent sporting facilities, which include a large field and a shared field used for cross-country and orienteering. It has a wide range of modern technological equipment, which is used as an integrated teaching aid. The school offers a variety of out-of-school activities including choir, cross-stitch, football training and netball training. There are opportunities for children to participate in team games after-school, on a regular basis. Various concerts and functions are held throughout the year. Educational visits are also arranged in connection with work being done in school. The school aims to provide quality experiences in all aspects of school life in the context of a warm and welcoming Christian ethos so that the children will develop Christian values.
