Background:

Meanwood Church of England Primary School was founded in 1840 by Christopher Beckett, a member of a prominent philanthropic family from Leeds. He began the school to provide education for children living in or near the village of Meanwood. The school is situated right next to a park, which presents many learning opportunities, not to mention a wonderful place for the children to play after school (and at lunch time) in the summer. All children in school study the core curriculum plus R.E. The curriculum is enhanced by the midday or weeks and by many opportunities fir educational visits and outside speakers. There is a wide range of extra curricular activities every night after school for children from years one to six. The school choir is particularly successful and has reached the finals of the music for youth festival this year. The school is pivotal within the community and has long established and close links with both churches. The school aims to educate the whole child. Teaching is designed to develop the moral, social, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual dimensions that all children possess. Individual needs are identified and planned for in a progressive way. Teaching is based on first hand experience and to cater for a range of learning styles.
