Background:
The college was founded in 1908 by the Sisters of the Cross and Passion order to work in partnership with Catholic parents to educate their daughters in the context of the Catholic faith and way of life. St Joseph's was recently awarded Beacon school status for good practice in leadership and management, Key Stage provision, spiritual, moral and cultural education, provision for gifted and talented pupils, English, maths, science, pupil behaviour, use of ICT, assessment and the use of data. The college is a city learning centre satellite funded under the Excellence in Cities initiative and delivers 'twilight courses' on-line so pupils can access their work and course from any PC. Its adopted charities for fundraising are the Leeds Diocesan Catholic Care Service and Cafod. There is an annual pilgrimage to Lourdes and trips to Spain and France. Described as a 'vibrant Catholic community', the school is over-subscribed, receiving 1.8 applications for each place.
