Background:
Founded in the 1960s from the amalgamation of three smaller schools, Meltham is halfway up the Pennines in West Yorkshire. The views across the hills are 'great' and the weather is a 'big feature'. Facilities include a swimming pool and a computer suite, both of which were built thanks to funds raised by the Parent-Teacher Association. There is a 70-strong choir which has been invited to sing in SchoolSong in 2000, and the children do various after-school activities such as cross-country running, band practice, chess, table-tennis, recorders and line-dancing.
