Background:

Wakefield City High School is a mixed comprehensive school catering for pupils aged 11-16 years. It is maintained by Wakefield LEA and is situated on a large, pleasant, single site in the northeast of the city. New buildings comprise two fully equipped ICT suites, six science laboratories, music recording studio, drama studio, business studies suite and technology rooms. There is a central library with learning resource area and a careers library. The school has excellent outdoor facilities including two hard court areas, a gymnasium and a fitness and weight training room. Extra-curricular activities play an important part in the life of the school. In sports clubs and teams are offered on a regular basis, with fixtures being organised against other schools. Residential visits take place on a regular basis and various musical and drama productions are mounted. The school was granted Beacon status in September 2000 and Leading Edge status in July 2004. The school'strives to provide a quality education, within a caring environment, for all children irrespective of background or ability.
