Background:
Thornton Grammar School is a co-educational 11 to 18 foundation school and Specialist Sports College. The school is situated in its own extensive playing fields in open country to the west of Bradford, three and a half mile from the City Centre. Founded in 1673, the school has known three different homes. The original schoolhouse, which was used for over 200 years, still stands at School Green. The school moved to a site next to Thornton Baths in 1873 and Cement Attlee opened the present building in its original from in 1944. The school has excellent facilities with new business studies suite, a design and technology suite, food technology suite, a large hall and a well-equipped science area. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. The school believes in traditional vales and provides a safe, supportive, disciplined and stimulating environment.
