Background:

The King's High School is situated on an elevated site off the Ackworth Road and is one of two 11-16 mixed comprehensive schools serving the town of Pontefract. The school moved to its present site in 1932, and the main block presently housing the English and Modern Languages department, surrounding an attractively laid out quadrangle, dates from that time. Recent extensions and adaptations to existing facilities have provided well-equipped teaching suites for the various curriculum areas. Sport is well catered for with a large sports hall, gymnasium and extensive outdoor facilities. A spacious new assembly hall, well stocked library, a new ICT suite with modern, up-to-date equipment, and a conservatory/reception lounge overlooking a central quadrangle garden, all contribute to the ambience of the school. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities. School choirs and instrumental groups and drama and art clubs provide a rich outlet for creative talent in the school. Visits and trips abroad are also arranged. The school aims to provide a happy, purposeful, caring, safe and stimulating environment where success is desirable and achievable.
