Background:
Summerfield Primary School is situated on the brow of a hill above Intake High School, between Rodley and Stanningley. The school was built in 1954 and a hall and six classrooms were added in 1977. It also offers extensive playground areas and a large grassy area. It serves a mixed area, which includes both council and private housing. It gives importance to personal and social education (PSE) and behaviour and uses circle time to enhance this. The curriculum aims to be broad and balanced and is based on the national curriculum, in addition to which there are a large number of after-school clubs including French, pottery, football, netball, gym, hockey, country dancing and computer club. Pupils are given the opportunity to learn a musical instrument such as the flute, clarinet, keyboard, guitar and drums. The school aims to encourage a social climate in which pupils and staff work positively.
