Background:
A rural school set in extensive grounds on the western fringes of Sherburn-in-Elmet, a village just south of York. The school was built in 1968 and has excellent facilities which include nine science laboratories, a rural studies unit, a lecture theatre and music practice rooms. There is also a central information centre containing three computer suites and a careers library. The school boasts a sports hall and gymnasium, large playing fields and an indoor heated swimming pool. The school offers an extensive range of lunchtime clubs and activities. There is a thriving Youth Club and Activities Centre through which young people aged 14 to 18 have the opportunity to undertake a variety of activities. The school aims to create and maintain a happy and purposeful working atmosphere through good quality relationships between students, staff, parents, governors and the community at large.
