Background:
This over-subscribed school is situated on the edge of a large council estate in Leeds, about three miles from the city centre. It was founded in the 1930s, but moved to its present site in 1974. The 'spacious' single storey school buildings have a 'pleasant, open' outlook and their own playing fields. The 'very successful' school serves a large number of children with special educational needs and always operates through 'close consultation' with parents. Seacroft garnge is very proud of the academic improvements it has made over the last five years. Art is a 'strength', and paintings have won local and national competitions, helping the school to gain sponsorship. It has also experienced success in five-a-side football, with the school's team winning the Leeds Leisure Service's World Cup in 1998. The Early Bird Cafi provides breakfast for children in the TV room. A variety of extra-curricular activities is offered and older children may attend residential visits. Swimming lessons take place every week, while a small number of children learn the violin, flute or recorder.
