Background:

The main part of the school building in which most classrooms are situated is Victorian, but the rooms have been 'well adapted to suit modern educational techniques and philosophies'. There are also two classes and a nursery housed in 'well maintained' pre-fabs set in 'extensive' grounds. Facilities include a separate library, a carpeted entrance area and seperate dining rooms, ensuring that the hall is utilised to the full for PE, dance and games. Playgrounds on three sides of the school provide separate play facilities for younger pupils. In addition to 'high academic achievement' the school has a 'high reputation' in the arts, particularly dance. Pupils from the school have danced twice in front of HRH The Princess Royal and performed at the Leeds Grand Theatre, as well as at the famous Leeds City Varieties. Pupils have also featured in a BBC television documentary on dance in the curriculum. The school has a policy of employing professional coaches for soccer, basketball and cricket in addition to teaching by teachers in the above sports and also in netball, badminton, swimming and gymnastics. It also encourages pupils to raise money for charity and supports several charities each year.
