Background:

The school was formed in 1989 following the amalgamation of the infant and junior schools on the same site. Each has its own hall/gymnasium, playground and grassed areas. The school'serves the private housing estates that surround it and a large council housing estate to the north. Children also travel from other parts of the city to attend. Facilities include an ICT suite which is used by all classes. The school 'promotes high academic standards across a broad curriculum'. It has a 'strong musical tradition' in brass, woodwind and strings, and offers a wide range of extra curricular sports including badminton, cross-country running, football and netball. Some pupils have represented their city or county in their chosen sport. There is a 'thriving' staff/parent group, the Friends of Ninelands. In 2001 the school received the Sport England Activemark and the Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark.
