Background:
Located in northwest Leeds, five miles from the city centre yet on the edge of open countryside, Horsforth School opened in 1972 and has over 1,400 students.It was one of the first schools to be given specialist Science Status in 2002, quarterly establishing itself as one of the best science colleges in the United Kingdom (Times Newspapers 2003). The school has also gained the prestigious school curriculum award together with both Artsmark and Sportsmark status. A work related pathway in key stage four together with the innovative positive discipline strategy have ensured that on school is at the 'cutting edge' of developments in education. The school has recently gained the I.I.P. for the third time and it is now a SKITT.41. The school aims to maximise the potential of every student in a fair, safe and equal environment. The John Broadwell learning centre, video, conferencing theatre, information and communication technology suite, mathematics, changing rooms and fitness rooms are all opening in October 2004. These facilities will consolidate its position as one of the most forward looking schools in the area.
