Background:

Rawdon St Peter's opened in its present buildings in 1954 after the original school, founded in 1861, burned down in 1951. In the 1970s the school expanded with the addition of an adjoining infant school. Rawdon is an 'affluent commuter area' to the north west of Leeds but retains its village feel. Links with Rawdon St Peter's Church help the school to continue in its role as a village school. There are 'strong traditions' in both sport and music. There are many sports teams, both single-sex and mixed, such as rounders, netball, athletics, and rugby, and over 100 children receive instrumental tuition. All junior children have the chance to participate in a residential experience ranging from one night to a week away. The active Parent-Teacher Association contributes significantly to fundraising for school needs. The children themselves raise money for one child-related cause each term. The school has a very caring and sharing ethos with the children getting a chance to have their say through class school council. The school'strengths are founded on positive relationships between all partners.
