Background:
Ilkley Grammar School founded in 1607. It has occupied the current site since 1893. The originally selective boys' school became co-educational in 1939 and became comprehensive in 1969. Its further extensive building programme to establish school on single site was completed on September 2003. The school has a campus close to Ilkley Moor, with views of Wharfe valley. Addingham, Ilkley and Burley-in-Wharfedale are some of the areas served by the school. Facilities of the school include a sports hall and swimming pool. Broad and balanced curriculum is offered. Full programme of extra-curricular activities, with music, drama and sport are particularly strong. Other activities include community work and support for charity. Combined specialist science college status and humanities college status. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place. The school aims to enable each pupil to develop fully his or her potential and to prepare pupils for a full and rewarding adult life.
