Background:

Garforth Community College is situated on the east side of Leeds, half a mile from the centre of Garforth, a town of 30000 residents. It was opened by the secretary of state in 1967 with purpose-built accommodation. Its success and standards means that it draws pupils from a wide area of East Leeds, as well as North Yorkshire. The college occupies a superb area of 28 acres with extensive playing fields and a college farm. Tree planting has made the whole site very attractive. The college has a strong tradition of success in rugby union, soccer, cricket, badminton, netball, hockey, cross-country running and athletics. There are two sports halls, a gymnasium. Other activities include the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, Young Enterprise Scheme and leisure pursuits. The school has designated as specialist Performing Arts College that enabled them to develop many outstanding specialist facilities which is not normally found in a comprehensive school. The school has developed a range of extended school activities to call for its students and the under community with family activities, support sessions for the National curriculum core subjects and an extended range of holiday enrichment activities. The college aims to offer a happy, safe and secure environment in a family atmosphere.
