Background:
Moved to new buildings on large greenfield site on edge of Ilkley in 1968; for Catholic children in area that includes parishes of Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale, and Ilkley. Broad and balanced curriculum, with emphasis on creative teaching and learning that challenges and inspires children, and takes account of different learning styles. Curriculum enriched by contributions from poets, writers, artists, and visiting theatre companies; many opportunities for drama and performance work. The school is developing modern foreign languages provision; German from age of five. Annula fundraising supports projects in Malawi as well as local charities; raised £2,600 in 2003. Beacon status (1999); DfES achievement award (2003). 'The school aims to provide an environment where children are equally valued and are encouraged to grow and develop in an atmosphere that demonstrates the practical expression of our Christian beliefs. We aim to help children to become confident and articulate people who make the most of their opportunities and seek ways to contribute to the wellbeing of their community and the wider world'.
