Background:
St Edward's is a voluntary aided catholic primary school, maintained by Leeds local education authority. The first St Edward's was opened in Clifford around 1864. The present building on Westwood Way, Boston Spa was opened in 1974. It is a light, spacious building surrounded by playing fields and mature bushes and trees situated in the pleasant village atmosphere of a semi-rural locality. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These activities include football, netball, folk dancing, choir, chess, cricket, and art. Educational visits are also arranged to enhance the curriculum. The school aims to create a safe, caring Christian environment in which each individual is valued, encouraged and given an equal opportunity to develop his or her full potential spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.
