Background:
St Francis Catholic School was founded in 1957 and is now situated on two sites - an older, traditional two storey building and a more recent annex. The school has a large field and a 'barren playground - vandalism is a problem'. There is a pilot classroom for information communication technology for primary schools. Extra-curricular activities include keyboard, guitar and wind instrument lessons, choir, school band and an after school French club. There are successful rounders and running clubs - both of which have achieved competition successes. The school has made 'radical changes' to the Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculum since its last OFSTED inspection in 1997: 'This is not the best school - but it's improving and is trying its best to be the best'.
