Background:
Situated on the outskirts of Pudsey, this 'happy and welcoming' school was built in 1965 and refurbished in 1988. It benefits from a 'good sized' playground and playing fields. Around 45% of pupils have English as an additional language, though they are mostly from Sikh families and are fluent in English. The curriculum is shaped to meet each child's needs. Pupils enter all the local sporting events and have found 'some success'. Many children play the recorder, and some learn another instrument and can then join the school orchestra. 'Strong parental support' is exemplified in the Friends of Bolton Royd School, who organise fundraising and social activities. Parents are asked to help with their children's education at home, and are invited into the school to help in classrooms and for a weekly assembly when children's birthdays are celebrated. The school is over-subscribed.
