Background:
Castle Hall School is a grant-maintained secondary school of 840 boys and girls serving the town of Mirfield, near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Headteacher, David Learmonth has been in charge since September 1998. The school became a grant-maintained middle school in 1989 but has since been transformed in to a thriving secondary school. The school has been refurbishing and rebuilding since 1989 and new classromms include technology workshops; a library and resource area and language teaching rooms. Since 1995, Castle Hall has been a specialist language school at which students can take three languages in Key Stage 3 (German, Spanish or French) and Japanese in Key Stage 4. As well as taking the full range of national curriculum subjects, all students take business studies, religious education (RE) and IT courses. The school aims to allow each student to reach their full potential, while providing the support and encouragement for them to do so. The school has a strong extr- curricular activities programme.
