Background:
The school dates back to 1529 and it moved to its current site in the 18th century. The bulk of its buildings were built in the 1930s, but a substantial laboratory expansion was added in the 1960s and more recent building includes a new technology and dining block, the renovation and expansion of the sixth-form accommodation, a new laboratory block and a dual-use sports centre. The school offers 'outstanding' extra-curricular opportunities with 'particular strengths' in music and games and a 'wide range' of outdoor activities and community work. It is 'traditionally rooted, with a modern curriculum; close links with families and the community; high expectations of pupils; high reputation locally; very successful in placing school-leavers.
