Background:
Situated in the Craven Ward in Bradford, the 'friendly and supportive' school underwent major renovations and refurbishment in 1988, having originally been founded in 1851. The school grounds contain hard play and grass areas, as well as a wild area. It is 'very much a community school' and there is a 'high level' of parental involvement in the classroom, in the friends association and on the governing body. A home reading scheme encourages parents to help with their children's education at home. The curriculum is taught either in classes, groups or individually, and pupils are put into ability groups for maths from Year 1. Differentiated activities are offered for more able pupils. 'First hand experience' is provided through visits outside the school and children in Year 6 attend swimming lessons in the summer term. The 'many' out of school clubs include French, ocarina, netball, recorder, homework and cross country. There is also a school council comprised of pupils.
