Background:
Mount Pellon opened in August 1989 in buildings which had previously been occupied by Ostler Secondary Modern School. The buildings, which were constructed in 1903, underwent a major programme of work which was completed in 1991. This provided 'spacious modern' accomodation suited to the needs of a modern primary school, including its own indoor swimming pool. The school is situated in a multi-cultural urban area in west central Halifax, and many of the children come from ethnic minorities and from low income families. Extra-curricular activites at the school include instrumental tuition, choir, drama club, netball, football, rugby league and rounders. The school is slightly over-subscribed.
