Background:

SS Peter & Paul Catholic school is a Roman Catholic Voluntary Primary School in Yeadon on the outskirts of Leeds. It is located on the A65 road to Ilkley and Skipton about 5 kilometres from Leeds & Bradford Airport and is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The catchment area of the school extends from Menston to Rawdon. The geographical position of the school adds to its popularity and has created a diversity of social background among the children who attend. There is considerable pressure on places. This is due to the success of the school itself. The school opened in 1964. It was built when Yeadon was well defined and separate from Leeds. It had three interior patio areas. The Infant patio was roofed over in 1992 to provide another classroom. The car park was extended in 1994 and a new playground constructed at the same time. These improvements were consequent on developers building a new estate on the adjacent farm. The current fabric of the school is generally in good repair. New cloakrooms were added in 1999 and 2000 when all the toilets were completely refurbished. In 2001 a new classroom was opened. The school now has the equivalent of ten class bases, a hall, library, kitchen, staff room, office and a small group room. There are extensive grounds, which are well used and shared by the two other schools on the site.
