Background:
The school was founded in 1894 and is housed in a 'typical Victorian Yorkshire stone building'. In addition to an asphalt playground, the school has a field, one corner of which has been developed into a wildlife area. The school has a 'reputation for special educational needs', in which all teaching and non-teaching staff have been trained. A specialist teacher comes to the school one day a week. Information and communications technolog (ICT) is now a 'positive feature of the school'. Key Stage 2 classrooms are networked and make regular use of e-mail and the internet. Despite being a small school, a number of extra-curricular activities are offered. These include French, swimming, drama, wildlife, singing, chess, computers and homework. The school is proud of its reputation as a 'warm and friendly school'.
